Who is Anton Ptushkin?
Anton Ptushkin is a Ukrainian documentary filmmaker, television presenter and traveller who has become one of the most respected travel storytellers in the Russian- and Ukrainian-speaking world. He was born on 22 May 1984 in Luhansk, in eastern Ukraine, studied sociology at the East Ukrainian Volodymyr Dahl National University, then worked as a DJ and art director in a nightclub before moving to Kyiv in 2012.
In Kyiv he founded and directed radio broadcasts for Lounge FM and Radio Piatnytsia. And in 2017 he became a host of the popular travel series Oryol i Reshka alongside Nastya Ivleeva. Across three seasons and 65 episodes he filmed destinations around the world, then left the show in June 2018 to devote himself entirely to YouTube.
Since then he has built a channel that publishes barely a video a month but treats each one like a film. He has stated publicly that he runs the entire operation alone: no cameramen, no editors, no screenwriters. In 2020 Ukraine awarded him the title of Honored Journalist of Ukraine. And in 2024 he directed the documentary Saving the Animals of Ukraine: An Untold Story of War.
His audience comes for slow, careful, beautifully shot travel films that explain how a place actually feels rather than listing what to buy.
His YouTube journey
1. TV years (2017–2018). Three seasons and 65 episodes of Oryol i Reshka establish his voice and his taste for long, warm travel storytelling.
2. The one-man channel (2018–2023). He starts publishing solo Big Episodes. Norway, Australia, the Carpathians and Sweden episodes build a loyal audience. Several pass 20 or 30 million views.
3. Documentarian (2023–2026). Antarctic and war-documentary work raises the ambition. The Antarctica Big Feature premiere in 2025 drew over 5 million views. And his main channel settles at 5.43M subscribers on just 97 videos, with parallel English, Ukrainian, Spanish and Portuguese channels.
What kind of travel content does Anton Ptushkin make?
- Big Episodes. Features of 45 to 70 minutes, shot like short documentaries with slow pacing and full narration.
- Arctic and polar work. Antarctica, Svalbard, Lofoten, Iceland, Faroe Islands — his signature landscapes.
- Country portraits. Namibia, Australia, Norway and beyond, focused on landscape, people and mood.
- Travel-practical clips. Shorter pieces on packing, flights and fear of flying, including a widely shared video for anxious flyers.
- Documentary film. War-related documentary direction, including Saving the Animals of Ukraine.
- Multi-language publishing. The same sensibility delivered in five language channels.
What he does not do: daily vlogs, prank content, hotel luxury tours or sponsored destination ads dressed as journalism.
